Navi Mumbai: Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has been recognized with two prestigious SKOCH awards for its outstanding initiatives in water management and healthcare. The awards were conferred at the 100th special ceremony of the SKOCH Summit held in New Delhi.

NMMC Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde accepted the awards on behalf of the corporation from SKOCH Group’s Director Dr. Deepak Phatak and Vice President Dr. Gursharan Dhanjal, in the esteemed presence of Ajay Seth, Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Government of India, and SKOCH Group Chairman Samir Kochhar. "This dual recognition marks a significant achievement for the city and its citizens," said Dr Shinde.

The first award was presented for NMMC’s ‘Efficient and Sustainable Water Management System,’ a project that ensures systematic water distribution, conservation, and environmental sustainability. Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde highlighted that Navi Mumbai is a well-planned city with 85% of water connections metered, ensuring efficient monitoring and control of water usage.

The corporation has also prioritized the use of treated sewage water for non-potable purposes, reducing the burden on drinking water resources. Additionally, efforts have been made to supply 50 million liters per day of recycled water to industries, and 96% of water bills are successfully collected.

The second award recognized NMMC’s ‘Cancer Care Initiative,’ a critical healthcare program aimed at early cancer detection and treatment, particularly among women. Under this initiative, cancer screenings are conducted at all 26 urban health centers and hospitals operated by the corporation. Suspected cases are referred to the renowned Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital for further examination and treatment.

Dr. Shinde revealed that over 10,000 women have been screened so far, with five identified cases referred for advanced care. "Furthermore, to ensure affordable cancer treatment, a dedicated chemotherapy unit has been established at NMMC’s Nerul Hospital," he added.

The SKOCH Awards are among the most prestigious national honors, recognizing individuals and institutions that contribute to India's progress through innovative projects. The rigorous selection process includes expert evaluations, multiple review stages, and public voting, making the recognition even more significant for NMMC.
