Navi Mumbai, April 2: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has recorded its highest-ever water tax collection of Rs 112 crore in the financial year 2025–26, marking a historic achievement since its establishment. The collection was achieved between April 1, 2025, and March 31, 2026.

Record collection driven by planning and technology

Civic officials attributed the record performance to effective planning, increased use of technology, and consistent follow-ups with consumers. The water supply department undertook a structured recovery drive, which saw a positive response from citizens who paid their dues on time.

Commissioner highlights transparency and citizen support

Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde said, “This record-breaking collection is the result of disciplined planning, transparency in the system, and the active cooperation of citizens. We focused on making the payment process simple and accessible, which encouraged more people to pay their dues on time.”

He further added, “We will continue to strengthen technology-driven systems and citizen-friendly initiatives to maintain and improve revenue collection in the coming years.”

Digital systems and outreach boost recovery

Officials said the administration focused on transparency, accessibility, and technology-driven systems to streamline the collection process. Under the guidance of Additional City Engineer Arvind Shinde, the department implemented online payment systems, QR code facilities, and other digital modes to make payments easier.

The department also intensified outreach through SMS alerts, notices, WhatsApp messages, and door-to-door follow-ups, which significantly boosted recovery.

To further facilitate payments, water bill collection centres remained open even on weekends and public holidays in March 2026, benefiting working professionals and residents.
