Navi Mumbai: In response to the rising summer temperatures, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has issued an advisory urging residents to take precautions against heat-related illnesses.

Under the campaign titled "Aala Unhala, Niyam Pala" (Summer is here, follow the rules), the Health Department of NMMC has outlined essential measures to help citizens stay safe and healthy during the heatwave.

The advisory emphasizes the importance of staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water and including natural hydrating beverages such as buttermilk, lemon water, and coconut water in one’s diet. Citizens are also advised to wear light-colored, loose-fitting cotton clothes and use protective headgear like caps or hats when stepping outside.

To minimize exposure to extreme heat, NMMC has urged residents to avoid venturing outdoors between 10 AM and 4 PM. If going out is unavoidable, people should try to complete their outdoor tasks in the early morning or late evening hours.

The civic body has also warned against consuming dehydrating beverages such as tea, coffee, carbonated drinks, and caffeinated products during hot weather.

The advisory discourages any strenuous physical activity during peak heat hours and recommends avoiding kitchen work, especially between 2 PM and 4 PM, when indoor temperatures tend to rise significantly. It also highlights the need to avoid walking barefoot on hot surfaces to prevent heat-induced injuries.

Particular caution is advised for children and elderly individuals, who are more vulnerable to heatstroke. NMMC has strongly advised against keeping them inside parked vehicles, which can become dangerously hot, and has asked residents to ensure proper ventilation during travel or waiting periods.

In case of any heat-related emergencies, the municipal corporation has instructed citizens to seek immediate help from nearby municipal hospitals and primary health centers. This proactive campaign is part of NMMC’s broader efforts to reduce cases of heatstroke and protect public health as the city braces for an intense summer.
