Navi Mumbai: A grand monument dedicated to the life and contributions of Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar will be built in the historic city of Mahad. Announcing this initiative, Social Justice Minister Sanjay Shirsat assured that the required funds would be made available for the project.
The announcement was made during the 98th-anniversary celebrations of the Chavdar Tale Satyagraha, a landmark movement led by Dr. Ambedkar advocating for social equality. The event saw Social Justice Minister Sanjay Shirsat and Rural Development Minister Bharat Gogawale paying floral tributes to Ambedkar’s statue.

Several dignitaries, including Social Justice Department Secretary Harshdeep Kamble, District Collector Kishan Jadhav, Zilla Parishad CEO Dr. Bharat Bastewad, Superintendent of Police Somnath Gharage, Dr. Bhante Rahul Bodhi, and Social Welfare Officer Sunil Jadhav, were present at the occasion.
As part of the tribute, the Raigad police force presented an armed salute on behalf of the state government, while a helicopter showered flower petals over the Chavdar Tale premises.

Minister Shirsat also announced that the Rs 7 crore development project for the beautification of Chavdar Tale, along with the Rs 3 crore Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj memorial project, would be expedited, said a statement released by District Information Office of Raigad. Additionally, a filtration plant will be installed to ensure clean water at the site.

With lakhs of Ambedkar followers arriving from across the country, the municipal and district administration had made elaborate arrangements to accommodate visitors. The event also included visits by dignitaries to the Krantistambh and Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar National Memorial, where they paid their respects to the social reformer’s enduring legacy.
