The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) Party has formally demanded a comprehensive audit of hotels and restaurants across Navi Mumbai following a shocking incident at hotel in Airoli, where a dead rat was found in a customer’s plate on March 8.

In a representation submitted to Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde, MNS has been asked for undertake strict inspections to assess food safety, hygiene standards, and compliance with legal regulations in all eateries from Digha to Belapur.

“ The dead rat incident needs to be taken seriously and every hotel in the city needs to undergo a thorough inspection on the standards adopted in preparing food,” said a party person, Amrut Jawale.

The party has also urged authorities to take immediate action against the hotel wherein the rat was found by revoking its license for gross negligence.

The party through the representation has stated that many restaurants in the city are operating without proper health and safety measures, posing a severe risk to public health. " It is extremely necessary that municipal authorities check whether hotels and eateries maintain proper food storage, ensure hygienic cooking conditions, and comply with staff health screenings and safety norms," adds Jawale.

The party stressed that the lack of regular inspections has allowed such violations to continue unchecked. It has urged NMMC to enforce stricter monitoring and take punitive action against establishments failing to meet food safety standards. “If the administration does not act swiftly, MNS will escalate the issue through protests and legal action,” adds Jawale.
