Navi Mumbai: A frantic search operation is underway after a 32-year-old doctor from JJ Hospital allegedly jumped into the creek from Atal Setu on Monday night. The incident was reported around 9:43 PM on July 7, following a call to the Atal Setu Control Room.

According to the Ulwe Police, the caller stated that an individual had jumped off the bridge at the 11.800-km mark on the Mumbai-bound lane. Responding promptly, police teams and beat marshals rushed to the spot and discovered a Honda Amaze car (MH 46 CM 6837) and an iPhone abandoned at the location.

Investigations revealed the identity of the man as Dr. Omkar Bhagwat Kavitke, a resident of Room No. 1001, Avinash Society, Plot No. 67, Sector 20, Kalamboli, and a practicing doctor at JJ Hospital. His identity was confirmed after police contacted a caller on the recovered phone.

His sister, Komal Pramod Lambate, along with other relatives, has reached the police station and confirmed his identity.

Multiple agencies, including a rescue team, ambulance services, and the Marine Security Department's 'Dhruvtara' boat, are combing the area where the doctor is believed to have jumped. As of now, there has been no sign of the missing man, senior police inspector Arjun Rajane from Ulwe police station said, adding, "He was unmarried and resided in Panvel.
