Navi Mumbai, April 3: In a bid to reduce rising human-wildlife conflict, the Forest Department in Khalapur taluka has inducted an advanced animal trap, developed with support from local organisations and volunteers, officials said.
Advanced trap introduced through collaboration
The modern cage, designed to safely capture and treat wild animals, was handed over to the department on April 2 through a collaboration between Help Foundation and Ahil Fencing and Gabion Company. The initiative comes amid increasing wildlife movement in the region, raising concerns over accidents and lack of timely rescue infrastructure.
Trap designed and donated by local volunteer
The trap was designed by Ashfaq Logde, head of Ahil Fencing and Gabion Company and a member of Help Foundation, who provided it free of cost and has also offered to support similar efforts in the future.
Officials highlight importance of public participation
Khalapur Range Forest Officer Rajendra Pawar said the initiative would strengthen the department’s response to wildlife emergencies. “Such collaborative efforts are crucial. Conservation of forests and wildlife is only possible through active public participation, and this initiative sets a strong example of that,” Pawar said.
Event attended by officials and volunteers
The handover event was attended by forest officials and staff, including Forest Guard Bhagwan Dalvi, who played a key role in coordinating the initiative. Several forest personnel and members of Help Foundation, along with animal lovers and former Khopoli municipal corporator Kishor Pansare, were also present.
