A 25-year-old jilted lover killed his former girlfriend and then attempted to take his own life over suspicion that she was in a relationship with another man. The incident took place in Sector 18, New Panvel, on January 31. The accused, Nikesh Bhagwan Shinde, is currently undergoing treatment at MGM Hospital, Kamothe, while Khandeshwar Police have registered a case against him. The deceased girl has been identified as Jagruti Haresh Satve (22).

A resident of Jyoti Apartment, New Panvel, Satve and Shinde both belonged to the same native place, in Mangaon and had been in a relationship since five years, said senior police inspector Smita Dhakane from Khandeshwar police station. According to the police, Satve had broken up with Shinde around three months back and he suspected that she was regularly meeting another man.

On Friday, he went to her residence wherein her mother and sister too were present and he requested them to give some time alone with her as he wanted to talk. In the process, the duo started fighting. Shinde assaulted her and then slit her throat using a knife he was carrying and then injured himself on the neck and wrist.

Her mother and sister who were in another room rushed hearing the cries and the duo were taken to hospital immediately. “While she was declared dead on arrival, he underwent surgery and is said to be stable now. We have registered a case against him and he would be arrested once he is discharged,” Dhakne said. Both were class XII pass out and worked in private firms.
