At Panvel the 395th birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was celebrated with a grand and vibrant procession which also included the traditional dhol-tasha beats, lezim performances, and chants - Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Ki Jai by residents dressed up in traditional attires.
The mega celebration was organised by the Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) with public participation. The procession commenced at 7:30 AM from the equestrian statue of Shivaji Maharaj.


The procession featured a diverse mix of traditional performances and visual tributes, reflecting Shivaji Maharaj’s legacy. The activities included 13 Lezim troupes from various schools , performance by Dhol and banjo troupes, Tableaus from four schools, depicting key moments from Shivaji Maharaj’s life and Women and students dressed in traditional Maharashtrian attire
Students from Panvel Municipal Corporation schools, St. Joseph’s School, K.V. Kanya Prashala, Mahatma International School, Agri Education Institute School, CKT School, and Ramsheth Thakur English Medium School actively participated.
The procession passed through Hutatma Smarak Chowk, Adarsh Lodge, Line Alley, Loknete D.B. Patil Primary School, Gavdevi Temple, Swatantrya Savarkar Chowk, Bapatwada Chowk, the Municipal Corporation Office, Employment Office, Bandar Road Chowk, and Maulana Azad Chowk, before reaching its final stop at Tapal Naka.
“The march proceeded through key locations in the city before concluding at Tapal Naka, where another floral tribute was offered to the half-scale statue of Shivaji Maharaj Throughout the route, various social organizations and local citizens actively participated, providing water, refreshments, and buttermilk to the attendees, ensuring a seamless and energetic celebration,” said an official.
Present for the auspicious occasion were MLA Prashant Thakur, Municipal Commissioner Mangesh Chitale, former Mayor Dr. Kavita Choutmol, former House Leader Paresh Thakur, and BJP district president Avinash Koli. Floral tributes were paid to the statue of the Maratha warrior.
At the conclusion of the procession, awards were presented to the best Lezim troupes and tableaus:
