A 21-year-old has been arrested from Vashi in Navi Mumbai for killing a 35-year-old man after the victim's wife reportedly rejected his repeated marriage proposals.
According to reports, Fatima Mandal, 25, filed a missing person complaint after her husband Abubakar Suhadli Mandal, 35, did not return home from work.
According to police, the accused, Aminur Ali Ahmed, 21, was in one-sided love with the victim's wife and had on multiple occasions proposed to her for marriage.
Police suspect the crime occurred during the intervening night of July 21 and 22.
Following the killing, the suspect disposed of the victim's clothing and belongings in Vashi creek while concealing the body in a nearby location, according to officials.
Police apprehended the suspect based on the filed complaint and subsequently retrieved the body, which was transported to a government hospital for autopsy, the official stated.
The crime appears to have stemmed from personal animosity and unrequited love, according to another official.
"The victim's wife was allegedly being coerced by the suspect to marry him, and her rejection may have provoked the murder," the official explained.
