The airbag of a car saved the life of a 35-year-old man who met with an accident on Monday afternoon along the Palm Beach road in Nerul, the police informed. The impact of the accident was so high that the car crossed the divider and flipped to the other lane of the highway.
According to the police, the man, identified as Jignesh Gupta, was driving his car on the Palm Beach road towards Vashi from Belapur when he lost control over the vehicle.
“It seems that the accident took place due to overspeeding between NRI junction and Arihant junction on Palm Beach Road,” said an on-duty police official. He added that Gupta received injuries from the accident, however, he was conscious and talking. He was later admitted to a private hospital.
“The accident could have been fatal if there was no airbag in the car,” said the police official.
In a similar incident, in May, two persons died and one was severely injured after their car crashed with the safety barrier at the same stretch where the accident took place on Monday.
Following the recent accident, the Navi Mumbai civic body held a meeting with the police officials and decided to take measures, including installing CCTV cameras with control at police headquarters and ramblers to check speed.
