A 60-year-old man from the Katkari tribal community died after his kutcha house collapsed in the wee hours of Tuesday in Jambhulpada, Katkari Wadi, in Uran. The deceased was sleeping along with his wife and a son in the house when it collapsed due to heavy rainfall.
According to an official from Uran Tehshil's office, the other two members of the family escaped unhurt with minor injuries. Prima facie the reason for the collapse of the house is believed to be the heavy rainfall. The deceased was identified as Ram Katkari.
Bhausaheb Andhare, Tehsildar from Uran Taluka said that the incident took place around 2 am on Tuesday when they were sleeping in the house. Soon after the incident, a local Asha worker of the Katkari community reached the spot and provided necessary assistance to the family. Later, a team from the Tehsil office visited the family.
“I also visited the Jambhulpada in the morning and met the family and neighbours to know the situation,” said Andhare. He added, “There are six-seven more houses that are similar to one that collapsed on Tuesday night and we have suggested either shifting to their relatives or government-run shelter homes till there is a forecast of heavy rainfall.”
Meanwhile, the district administration has assured the villagers to provide the necessary assistance to them.
For the past week, the Raigad district has been getting heavy rainfall. In the last 24 hours, the Uran taluka received more than 150 mm of rainfall.
