Nashik (Maharashtra): A tragic road accident in Nashik on Sunday, February 16, claimed the life of a 38-year-old teacher, Gayatri Sandeep Thakur. The incident occurred around 2 pm near Manohar Garden when a speeding Fortuner car lost control and crashed into a roadside sugarcane juice cart where Gayatri and her colleagues had stopped for a drink.
The SUV was travelling from the Indiranagar tunnel towards City Centre Mall when it veered off course, hitting food stalls, pedestrians and the juice cart with great force, according to reports. The impact threw Gayatri to the ground, fatally injuring her.
2 Others Injured In High Speed Crash
Two others, a man and a woman, sustained injuries in the accident. Bystanders and fellow teachers immediately rushed the victims to a private hospital in Govindnagar. However, doctors declared Gayatri dead on arrival. The injured are currently undergoing treatment, and their condition is being monitored.
The driver of the Fortuner, identified as Saurabh Bhope, has been detained by Nashik's Mumbai Naka police. Authorities have registered a case against him for reckless driving and causing a fatal accident. Preliminary investigations suggest that excessive speed and possible negligence led to the loss of control. The police are also examining whether any mechanical failures contributed to the crash.

Man Dies In Freak Accident On Mumbai-Goa Highway
Meanwhile, a tragic accident on the Mumbai-Goa Highway near Karnala Ghat claimed the life of a car driver and left a woman injured on February 9 in the morning. The incident occurred when a speeding trailer lost control, causing its container to fall onto a passing car. The driver of the trailer fled the scene, prompting a police search operation.
The deceased has been identified as 32-year-old Jagdish Hazra, while the injured woman, Pallavi Shrikant Joshi, 56, is a resident of Mulund, Mumbai. Hazra, who worked as Joshi’s driver, was accompanying her on a return journey from Poynad to Mulund when the accident took place.
Around 9:30 am, as their car approached Karnala Ghat, a trailer passing at high speed lost balance, and its container crashed onto their vehicle. Hazra, who was in the driver’s seat, was crushed under the heavy load and died instantly. Joshi, seated in the back, sustained minor injuries but survived the impact.
Upon receiving an alert, Panvel Taluka Police rushed to the scene and carried out a rescue operation. The victims were extracted from the damaged car and taken to a hospital for medical attention. Authorities confirmed that the trailer driver abandoned his vehicle and fled after the crash.
