Mumbai expects big crowds for the Dahi Handi festival, featuring exciting human towers. A highlight is the Parle Sports Club Mahila Govinda team, which has made history by constructing a seven-tiered human tower, becoming the first women's team to accomplish this milestone.
Founded in 2001, the team first built a five-tier tower, progressed to six tiers in 2006, and tried a seven-tier structure in 2013, but did not succeed. Their determination resulted in ongoing practice, striving for seven levels annually.
On August 14, 2025, they ultimately achieved the goal during rehearsal at approximately 1:15 am, using all essential safety gear. The group will showcase this seven-layer formation at the Dahi Handi celebration on August 16, 2025.
Training began on June 10, 2025, at Vaman Mangesh Dubashi Ground, with team members committing three hours each day for a duration of two months. Women from different areas, such as Vile Parle, Prabhadevi, and others, take part while prioritizing their security with appropriate gear and following guidelines, including the prohibition of minors.
Coach Geeta Zagade conveyed great pride, stating, "The vision held for numerous years has finally materialized. This achievement has been realized through discipline, consistency, and confidence. She expressed gratitude to her parents for their support, stressing the importance of exercise and nutrition for achieving success, while also underscoring the team's dedication to maintaining tradition through safety measures
