A young couple allegedly committed suicide at Vikhroli railway station on January 26. The couple reportedly jumped in front of the Garib Rath Express. The deceased were identified as Nitesh Tangadpalli, 20, and a 15-year-old girl. Investigations revealed that the boy and the girl were in romantic relationship, which the girl’s family strongly opposed. The Kurla railway police registered an accidental death report.
According to the railway police, the incident occurred on Sunday at 1.53 PM at Vikhroli railway station. The couple was on platform number four. When the Garib Rath Express (12887) entered the station, the couple allegedly jumped in front of the train.
Both the boy and the girl lived in Bhandup West, in nearby areas. The girl was a student in the 9th grade at an English-medium school, and her father worked for a garment company. The boy's family had a criminal background. The boy was unemployed. A case was previously filed against Nitesh at Bhandup police station for alleged illegal possession. Similarly, cases had also been filed against his father and brother. The girl’s family strongly opposed the relationship due to Nitesh’s criminal background and she was minor. Despite their efforts to convince the girl, she did not listen, eventually decided to send her to her uncle’s house in Uttar Pradesh.
On Saturday, the boy went to the girl’s house and asked her father for permission to marry her, which her father denied.
On Sunday, both the boy and the girl left their homes without informing their families. On the same day, the girl’s father registered a kidnapping case against the boy at Bhandup police station. Later, the couple was seen sitting at platform number four at Vikhroli railway station. When the express train approached, they reportedly jumped in front of it.
The Kurla police immediately arrived at the scene upon receiving the information and sent both bodies to Rajawadi Hospital, where doctors declared them dead at 3.53 PM. After the post-mortem, the police handed over the bodies to their respective families.
A case was previously filed against Nitesh at Bhandup police station for alleged illegal weapon possession.
