Mumbai: The white tiger, Bajirao, breathed his last at the Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP), Borivli, on May 3. Prima facie, post-mortem findings suggest necrotic lesions, multi-organ failure and age-related complications as the probable cause of death. Bajirao was 18 years old.

According to a press note issued by the conservator of forest (wildlife-2), SGNP, “He had been suffering from chronic ankylosis on left shoulder and chronic senile generalised arthritis, since four years,” and had been unable to walk for the past 10 days. Bajirao was being treated by senior veterinarians from Bombay Veterinary College. His carcass was cremated as taxidermy was ruled out “due to unsuitable skin condition”, the note said.
