Mumbai Weather Update: Pre-Monsoon Rains Bring 8.3°C Temperature Dip; IMD Predicts Light Showers To Continue

After two consecutive days on pre-monsoon rains with thunderstorms, Mumbaikars enjoy the coolness in the weather. The rains have brought down the minimum temperature in the city by as much as 8.3°C in two days. On Thursday, Mumbai witnessed cloudy skies and drizzles at isolated locations.

Mumbai: After two consecutive days on pre-monsoon rains with thunderstorms, Mumbaikars enjoy the coolness in the weather. The rains have brought down the minimum temperature in the city by as much as 8.3°C in two days. On Thursday, Mumbai witnessed cloudy skies and drizzles at isolated locations.

On Thursday, the Santacruz observatory recorded a minimum temperature of 20.6°C, which was 5.8°C below normal. While, Colaba recorded 22.2°C, which was 4.7°C below normal.

"There is no drop in humidity levels, however, the rainfall has brought the coolness. This weather condition will continue for next two days as the western winds disturbances continue," said IMD Mumbai scientist Sushma Nair.

As per Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) weather forecast, the Yellow Alert was given for Thursday, May 8, however for Friday, May 9, there are no warnings issued for rainfall and thunderstorms. But there is possibility of light rains or drizzles in Mumbai and it's metropolitan regions.

As per IMD's report, Santacruz of Thursday, Santacruz observatory recorded 32.1 mm rainfall, Colaba recorded 23.3 mm, Thane recorded 35 mm and Dahanu recorded 31.1 mm. Palghar recorded the highest and heaviest rainfall in Maharashtra with more than 60 mm rainfall. The overall range of pre-monsoon rainfall across the state in the last two days is in 'moderate' category, IMD said.

As the pre-monsoon showers have not before time, it is predicted that monsoon will too arrive early. Officially, the monsoon season begins from June 15 in Mumbai.

As per the IMD's Monsoon 2025 outlook, the state will witness 'above average' rainfall. Northern Maharashtra is expected to receive less rainfall, however, Marathwada and Southern Maharashtra are most likely to recieve above normal rainfall.
