There seems to be no relief from the scorching heat this week as the weather department has continued its warning for hot and humid conditions for Mumbai and its neighbouring districts. As per the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) weather report of April 6, for the next 48 hours, the minimum and maximum temperatures in Mumbai City and Suburbs will be 24 degrees Celsius and 36 degrees Celsius, respectively. The skies will be clear, and hot and humid conditions will prevail.
As per IMD’s district-wise weather report, a Yellow Alert for ‘Hot and Humid’ conditions is given for the Konkan region, which includes the districts of Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad and Ratnagiri. Mumbai and its neighbouring cities reeled under extreme humidity last week, coupled with unseasonal drizzles. This extreme weather was attributed to cyclonic waves and due to cloudy skies, the minimum temperature had climbed to as much as 4.5 degrees Celsius above normal.
On Sunday, Mumbai’s Santacruz observatory recorded a minimum of 24 degrees and a maximum of 33.8 degrees Celsius temperatures. “Although the mercury on Sunday was normal, it is expected to rise from Monday and skies will be clear. However, from Thursday, April 10, the skies are forecasted to be cloudy and the mercury is expected to drop slightly,” said IMD Mumbai officer Sushma Nair.
As per the IMD weather outlook for April 2025, the minimum and maximum temperatures in Maharashtra, including Mumbai, will be above normal. “During April 2025, an above-normal number of heatwave days are likely over most parts of Maharashtra. Normal to above normal rainfall is likely over many parts of South Konkan and South Madhya Maharashtra. Normal rainfall is expected over parts of North Konkan and Marathwada,” the report says.
Several parts of Maharashtra received unseasonal rains last week as the state is entering the peak of the summer season.
