Mumbai on Friday witnessed the coldest November morning of the last eight years, with the Santacruz observatory recording a minimum temperature of 16.5 degrees Celsius. Apart from mist, the weather in the city was partly cloudy, but pleasant throughout the day.
As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD) report, the temperatures in Mumbai will range between 19 and 35 degrees Celsius until December 5. The mornings will be foggy and skies will remain partly cloudy.
Recently, Mumbaikars have been waking up to chilly and foggy mornings. However, the temperature is expected to rise slightly over the weekend, said the weather bureau, adding that it won't be a sweltering uptick.
“Mumbai will not see low temperatures consistently. For the next three-four days, there will be a rise in the mercury. The winter in the city comes with waves in temperature. Hence, low temperatures are likely to make a comeback after a few days again,” said Sunil Kamble, IMD, Mumbai head.
On Friday, the Santacruz observatory recorded a maximum temperature of 33 degrees Celsius. Similarly, its Colaba counterpart registered minimum and maximum temperatures of 21 and 33 degrees Celsius, respectively.
Even the entire Mumbai Metropolitan Region is experiencing chilly mornings. In the last two days, Thane as well as Navi Mumbai recorded minimum temperatures of 14-15 degrees Celsius, while the mercury dipped to freezing 11-13 degrees Celsius in Kalyan and Badlapur.
The cyclonic circulation in the Bay of Bengal has influenced the flow of the northerly winds, resulting in the sharp drop in temperatures in the state. The winter is expected to stay strong this year for Mumbai and the rest of Maharashtra.
