Finally, the wait of 2018 lottery winners of Mankhurd houses has come to an end. The BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has handed over 125 houses to the Mumbai board of Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) occupied for quarantine purposes.

Considering the surge in COVID-19 cases, BMC had occupied vacant houses available with MHADA and Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA). It had taken over 707 houses offered in the 2018 lottery draw by MHADA Mumbai Board. Of these, 265 were in Mankhurd, followed by 84 in Pratiksha Nagar and Sion, 278 in Antop Hill and 80 in Unnat Nagar. To control the prevailing pandemic and rising cases in the first and second wave, these houses were utilised for quarantine purposes. Eligible housing lottery draw winners were unable to take occupancy of their houses due to it. In many cases, the housing loan installment had also started even though they did not get possession of the flat they won, according to MHADA.

BMC recently handed over these houses spread in two different towers at Mankhurd. The Mumbai board has now started the distribution process of the 125 houses, said Rajendra Gaikwad, MHADA Mumbai Board (marketing) department officer.
