Dinesh Nandwana, 62, founder, promoter, and chairman emeritus of Mumbai-based technology company Vakrangee Group, was shocked by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) raids at his Andheri residence. He collapsed and died of a fatal heart attack on Friday.

Senior ED officials clarified that there was no foul play involved in his death or any complaint against the conduct of the ED team during the search operation. "It was very unfortunate that Nandwana, who had a history of heart ailments, suffered a cardiac stroke and collapsed. He was rushed to the nearest hospital," an ED official stated.

The Jalandhar unit of the ED had raided the Andheri East residence of the Vakrangee founder when he collapsed during the search.

Vakrangee is a technology-driven company, incorporated in 1990 and located at MIDC Marol, which is involved in building India’s largest network of last-mile retail outlets aimed at serving the unserved and underserved rural, semi-urban, and urban populations of India.

According to the senior management of Vakrangee, the company was rapidly expanding with Assisted Digital Convenience stores, Nextgen Vakrangee Kendras, acting as ‘One Stop Shops’ for multiple products and services.

"He was rushed to the hospital but died before admission. Prima facie, it looks like he had a heart attack, but we are awaiting the postmortem report to ascertain the exact cause of death," said MIDC police station Senior Inspector Ravindra Chavan.

The Vakrangee family has not filed any police complaint regarding the death of the founder patriarch, Dinesh Nandwana.

In another unrelated case, the wife of an entrepreneur attempted suicide when the ED swooped down on their Bhopal residence late Thursday night. Payal Modi, 31, wife of Kishan Modi, proprietor of Jayshri Gayatri Food Products Pvt Ltd, consumed poison when the ED team raided their residence in a money laundering probe related to 63 forged laboratory certificates used to export adulterated milk products.

Earlier, in December 2024, a Madhya Pradesh couple had allegedly committed suicide after ED raids at their home in Sehore district, connected to a 2017 bank fraud case.

Manoj Parmar and his family made national headlines during the Congress Bharat Jodo Yatra when their younger son handed over his piggy bank to Rahul Gandhi as the rally entered MP from Burhanpur.
