Mumbai University students can now study Data Science, Actuarial Science

For the first time, students can study Bachelor of Science (BSc) Actuarial and Data Science course in the Mumbai University (MU). Students can study this course in order to pursue a career in the finance, insurance, technology and data analytics sector.

Mumbai: For the first time, students can study Bachelor of Science (BSc) Actuarial and Data Science course in the Mumbai University (MU). Students can study this course in order to pursue a career in the finance, insurance, technology and data analytics sector.

The varsity has tied up with Rahul education to design this course for students who are looking for specialisation in Actuarial science and Data science sector.

Teachers claim Actuarial science is the discipline that applies mathematical and statistical methods to assess risk in insurance, finance and other industries and professions. Tanumeha Shinde, a teacher, said, "We want to offer students an opportunity to study fields which are rare but important in terms of employment and jobs."

While, the university officials claim Data science is a multi-disciplinary field which uses scientific methods, processes, algorithms and systems to extract knowledge and insights from data in various forms. A senior officer of MU, said, "Data Science can help students to harness the use of science and technology through data analytics."

Students claim courses like data science are related to the field of Artifical Intelligence (AI), robotics and mechanics. Sagar Ghosh, an aeronautical engineering student, said, "AI is the way forward for development of technology. These courses help as AI is entirely dependent on Data Science."
