Mumbai: Truck driver held after a 47-year-old woman killed in Mulund accident

The Mumbai police have arrested a 27-year-old man for rash driving and negligence after he killed a 47-year-old woman riding a scooty. The woman was working with a food delivery app.

The police said the woman is identified as Archana Deepak Chabriya, 47, a resident of Kopri and was working part time with a food delivery app and resides at Kopri, Thane. According to her husband Deepak Chabriya 56, who works in a general store his wife Archana left home at 11:30am. "He received a call at 2:45pm on Saturday informing him that Archana met with an accident and that she has been shifted to the civic hospital for treatment. The incident took place in-between 2:15pm to 2:40pm on PK road, near Raja industrial estate, Mulund," said a police officer.

On primary investigation the police learn Archana was driving her scooty, and was trying to overtake the truck in between two gaps of the vehicles. "When she was hit by the truck MH 13 AX 4802. He was injured and shifted to the civic hospital where doctors declared her dead on arrival," said the official.

The police have arrested the truck driver Bibhishan Balu Bhandagar, 27, who was driving the truck. He fled away from the scene after the accident, but was caught after police chased him.

"The woman was working with a food delivery app. We have registered a case against the driver for rash driving and negligence and have arrested him. The accused was produced in court on Sunday," said Vijay Bhise, senior police inspector, Mulund police station.

The Mulund police have registered a case under section 279 and 304 (A) of the Indian penal code and relevant sections of the Motor Vehicle Act.
