Mumbai: A trained pilot, who was about to take up a job with an airline, died after the BMW bike, which he was riding, was crushed under the wheels of a speeding trailer at Vasai naka on NH8 Highway. The accident happened on Sunday morning. A senior police official said 28-year-old Varun Bamrotia had jumped lanes – from the first to the third — when the trailer came from behind to mow him down.

The trailer was proceeding from Mumbai to Ahmedabad. The driver of the container is absconding and the vehicle has been impounded. After the post-mortem examination, the body was given to his family for final rites. The further investigation is underway. Varun was a bike buff and his friends fondly remember him as a great rider, too, who took off on long rides over the weekend. He was to ride up to Manor and return home by noon.
