Mumbai: The festival of Eid-al-Adha, which was celebrated across the globe on Sunday, brought tragedy for a Muslim family from Byculla this year, after their five-year-old son fell out of their bedroom window and lost his life.

According to the Agripada police, the incident occurred at around 10.15 a.m. on Sunday at the Janata Sahakari Society on the Pious Road in Byculla. The police said that the boy, whose name has been withheld on request from the family, was playing on a bed near the bedroom window of his 11th floor apartment in the building, where he was staying with his parents.

Even as his mother was speaking to relatives who had come to visit them on the occasion of the Bakri Eid, which celebrates the spirit of supreme sacrifice, the boy leaned too far out of the window and lost his balance.

“There are no grills on the windows in the house, and the boy fell down, landing on a scooter parked on the road. He was rushed to the Nair Hospital in Agripada by local residents, where he was declared dead before admission by the doctors,” said senior police inspector Yogendra Pache, Agripada police station.

The hospital authorities subsequently informed the police and a team was sent to conduct inquiries. The police visited the residence of the deceased and also spoke to his family members.

“Inquiries conducted so far have not revealed anything suspicious in the incident. We have have registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) in connection with the matter,” Pache said.
