Mumbai witnessed a surge in traffic violations during the Dahi Handi celebrations on Saturday, with the city’s traffic police issuing more than 10,000 e-challans. The fines for these offences totalled nearly ₹1.13 crore.

Offences ranged from riding without a helmet and speeding to driving in the wrong direction and triple riding. Traffic officials were deployed at key locations across the city to monitor the festivities and ensure road safety.

Joint Commissioner of Traffic Anil Kumbhare Told The Time Of India, “We are closely scanning CCTV footage from various areas to identify violations. Additional e-challans will be issued where necessary.”

The festive season often sees a rise in traffic-related issues as revellers and spectators throng the streets for Dahi Handi, one of the most colourful and lively celebrations in Mumbai. Police officials have emphasised that these strict measures are aimed at safeguarding both participants and commuters.

The e-challan drive highlights Mumbai traffic police’s proactive approach in curbing violations during festivals, ensuring that festivities do not come at the cost of road safety. Officials also warned that those attempting to evade fines could face stricter action under the city’s traffic laws
