Mumbai: The Mumbai Traffic Police announced detailed traffic restrictions and diversions across the city ahead of Hanuman Jayanti celebrations on April 2, 2026, anticipating large crowds and religious processions in both western and eastern suburbs.
In the western suburbs, a major procession is expected from the Hanuman Temple in Vakola, drawing an estimated 8,000 to 10,000 devotees. The procession route will pass through Vakola Junction, Nehru Road, Golibar Road, Abdul Hakim Chowk and Khar Subway before returning. Officials have warned that narrow stretches and ongoing work, particularly on Golibar Road, could lead to major congestion.
Also Watch:
To manage the situation, authorities have imposed temporary road closures. The stretch from Vakola Junction to Santacruz East railway station up to Khar Subway will remain shut to all vehicular traffic from 6:00 pm to midnight on April 2. Traffic movement along Nehru Road and Golibar Road is expected to be heavily affected, and motorists have been advised to avoid the Khar Subway route during these hours.
As part of diversions, commuters are advised to use the Milan Subway or the Milan Flyover as alternate routes. Traffic personnel will be deployed on the ground to manage flow and assist motorists.
In the eastern suburbs, under the Sakinaka Traffic Division, separate restrictions have been announced near the Shri Maruti Temple along the JVLR service road (southbound), close to Laxmi Hotel, where large gatherings are anticipated.
Vehicular entry, except for emergency services, will be prohibited on Adi Shankaracharya Marg (JVLR service road, southbound) in the affected stretch. The restrictions will be in force from 9:00 pm on April 1 until 10:00 am on April 2. No parking will be permitted along this route during the restriction period.
Vehicles will be diverted to continue via the main Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road (JVLR) southbound carriageway. Officials said the measures are aimed at preventing congestion, ensuring public safety, and facilitating the smooth movement of devotees during the festival. The traffic police have urged citizens to plan their journeys in advance, follow designated diversions, and cooperate with authorities to minimise inconvenience.
