Mumbai: Under the guidance of the National Commission for Women and in collaboration with the BMC, Bharatiya Stree Shakti is launching three ‘premarital counselling’ centres in Mumbai.
Minister for Culture Ashish Shelar noted that “the rising number of family disputes and divorces is a cause for concern. To address this issue, there is an urgent need for pre-marriage counselling centres”.
National Commission for Women Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar has taken the initiative to start such centres across the country, Shelar said. He said initially centres will be opened in Parel, Vile Parle and Borivali. Bharatiya Stree Shakti has been working for the empowerment of women since 1988.
“Several initiatives like family counselling centres and premarital guidance workshops are being held all over the country,” said Seema Deshpande, an official from the organisation.
