Mumbai: Three arrested by Trombay police for minor’s gang-rape

Mumbai: Three persons have been arrested on Friday by the Trombay police for kidnapping and gang-raping a 15- year-old minor girl.

The minor girl, a resident of Mankhurd, was kidnapped from her residence and taken to a flat in Kanjurmarg where she was raped repeatedly by the four accused. The victim was forcibly kept at the flat for a day. On Thursday evening, one of the accused asked the girl to accompany her on the pretext that he was going out and so she could accompany him. The three accused were present at the flat when the victim was taken there. Later, the girl was threatened by the accused that if she would confide in anyone about the incident or report it to the police, they would kill her. The incident came to light on Friday when the girl narrated the incident to her parents after she returned home.

One of the accused is a friend of the victim’s father. The accused and the girl’s father have been friends in their college days. The remaining three accused are also known to the victim’s family. Trombay police filed a FIR and arrested three accused. The girl was taken to Lokmanya Tilak hospital at Sion. The three accused have been arrested for sexual assault under the Protection of Children From Sexual Offences Act (POCSO), rape (Section 376), Kidnapping (Section 363) and criminal intimidation (Section 506) of the Indian Penal Code.

According to Shahaji Umap, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 6), “The three accused have been arrested. They have been remanded in police custody up to July 12. Police teams have been formed to nab the absconding accused.”
