Mumbai: A police constable received serious injuries when his motorcycle was hit by a speeding car in Ghatkopar (East) in the wee hours of Wednesday. According to police, the arrested accused, identified as identified as Aamir Akhtar Shaikh, 20, hit the victim, 38-year-old Pramod Vitthal Devkule’s motorcycle by his speeding WagonR head-on at Shivneri Chowk. The crash victim is a police constable at the Versova police station.
Pant Nagar police said Devkule was on his way home when the incident took place. As the car was speeding, the driver lost his control of the vehicle, resulting in the accident. The impact of the crash was such that Devkule was thrown off the motorcycle and fell onto the footpath.
A grievously-injured Devkule was rushed to a hospital in South Mumbai, where he has been undergoing treatment. His condition is stated to be critical, said police. A case was registered against the accused for rash driving (279), causing grievous hurt by the act endangering life or personal safety of others (338) of the Indian Penal Code and for driving dangerously (184) under the Motor Vehicles Act.
