Mumbai: In a gruesome incident, a waste collector allegedly killed a young man by striking his head with a stone following a minor dispute. The Shivaji Park Police cracked the case with the help of CCTV and arrested the accused, Manoj alias Manya Sahare (30), within 24 hours of the incident, which took place on the night of December 26.

About The Case

According to a complaint filed by Police Sub-Inspector Vaibhav Gaikwad (32) at Shivaji Park Police Station, information was received on the morning of December 27 about a man lying in a pool of blood on the footpath in front of Rukmini Sadan building in Shivaji Park. A police team rushed to the spot and took the injured man to Sion Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.

Initial investigations revealed the victim's identity as Chandan (40). Evidence indicated that Chandan was murdered by an unknown assailant who struck him on the head with a stone. Police registered a case of murder and began probing the matter.

CCTV footage from the area showed Manya, a waste collector, loitering suspiciously near the crime scene. Further inquiries revealed that Manya had been seen with Chandan on the night of the incident.

The police tracked Manya down to a lane near Manmala Tank Temple in Mahim. Upon apprehension, officers noticed dried bloodstains on his T-shirt. During interrogation, Manya confessed to murdering Chandan. He was subsequently placed under arrest. The accused is currently in custody, and further investigations are ongoing.
