A shocking incident occurred in Bandra East, where a mother allegedly killed her 10-year-old son on Thursday. According to the police, the mother is a schizophrenia patient and has been undergoing treatment for the last one and a half years. The Kherwadi police registered an FIR against the mother for alleged murder after the son's father filed a complaint. The accused has been identified as 36-year-old Abhilasha Awate.
According to the police, the son's father, Ravindra Awate, 44, works as an Assistant Secretary in the Excise Department. The Awate couple have a 14-year-old daughter and a 10-year-old son. They live in a two-bedroom flat number 80, on the third floor, Y Government Colony in Bandra East. The father was at work when the incident occurred. The incident happened on Thursday between 7:30 PM and 7:45 PM.
On Thursday evening, Abhilasha, her son Sarvesh, and her daughter were at home. Abhilasha, who suffers from schizophrenia, was reportedly not in a stable mental condition. For some reason, she became angry, and her anger escalated. In a fit of rage, she dragged Sarvesh into the bedroom. The daughter called their father, saying that her mother might assault Sarvesh. Abhilasha then locked the bedroom door from the inside and strangled Sarvesh with a mobile charging wire. Sarvesh died on the spot.
By the time his father informed a neighbour about the call and requested them to check on the house, the incident had already taken place. The neighbour informed the police, and both the police and the neighbour arrived at the house and knocked on the door, but no one responded. The police then broke the door and found Sarvesh dead while the mother was wandering aimlessly around the house.
According to the police, "The accused mother is suffering from mental illness. She is still unaware of what she did or that her son has died. She suddenly asked, 'Is my son dead?' She has been receiving treatment for mental illness for the last one and a half years."
The son's father filed a complaint with the police, who registered a case under Section 103 (a) (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita on Friday. The police took the mother to the station, but they reported that she was still unaware of the gravity of the situation.
