Mumbai: In separate accidents on Thursday, two bike-borne men were killed after being hit by vehicles, which were driven in a reckless manner.

In the first incident, Sarthak Jangam, 20, a Worli Koliwada resident who worked as a delivery executive, was mowed down by a AC BEST bus 171 in Prabhadevi around 8.50pm. The driver was reportedly driving the bus, en route from Chunabhatti to Worli, in a haphazard manner.

As a result, the vehicle rammed into Jangam's two-wheeler and ran over him near the Decathlon building bus stop. The accused fled the scene, while the bus was found halted about 45 metres away from the spot, said the Dadar police. Efforts are underway to trace him and a case for causing death by negligence was filed on Saturday against him.

In the second fatal mishap reported from Chembur, Shakeel Sheikh, 49, a tailor from Nerul, was riding towards Dadar with his wife, Muskan, and son, Sharif, as pillions for buying dress material.

According to police reports, when they reached Umarshi Bappa Chowk on the Sion-Trombay Road around 1pm, a speeding car rammed into their motorcycle. Sheikh and his son suffered serious injuries, while Muskan survived with minor wounds.

The father-son duo was admitted to a nearby hospital where Sheikh was declared dead before admission. Sharif is undergoing treatment, said the police, adding that they have arrested Gurvinder Saini, 49, a resident of Chembur, who was behind the wheels at the time of the accident.

BEST stated, "No official information is available yet. However, the police are investigating, as the involvement of a BEST bus in the accident is suspected."
