Mumbai: Mumbai experienced heavy rainfall on Monday morning as the monsoon season made a strong advance into the city. The intense downpour led to severe waterlogging in several parts of the city, including the premises of the KEM Hospital, where water entered the ground floor, causing major disruption.
At KEM Hospital, one of Mumbai’s prominent healthcare centres, the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) was affected by the waterlogging. Flooding in this sensitive area has caused significant concern among hospital staff and patients' families, as the water enters the ground floor of the hospital.
The heavy rainfall also led to waterlogging on various local roads and tracks across Mumbai. Areas such as Byculla, Andheri, Churchgate, and Mumbai Suburban experienced significant flooding, impacting traffic flow and daily commuting. Vehicles were seen wading through waterlogged streets, and many residents faced challenges while travelling in the downpour.
Meteorological officials have predicted that the heavy showers will continue throughout the day as the monsoon strengthens its hold on the maximum city. Residents have been advised to take precautions, avoid unnecessary travel, and stay updated with weather reports.
The Mumbai Municipal Corporation and disaster management teams are actively monitoring the situation, working to clear waterlogged areas and ensure minimal disruption to city life. With the monsoon expected to bring more rains in the coming days, authorities urge vigilance and preparedness.

Sanitation workers are focusing on clearing garbage to prevent it from blocking drains and manholes, which often leads to waterlogging during the heavy rains in the city.
