Mumbai: Since the start of the week, Mumbai has been facing significant rainfall and warnings, caused by favorable easterly monsoon winds. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) announced continuous heavy rainfall, cloudy skies, and strong winds starting from July 25.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) cautioned of elevated tides reaching as high as 4.8 meters until July 27. The heavy rain has affected transportation, leading to considerable flooding and sluggish traffic.

Netizens have raised concerns and advised over the heavy traffic and congestion on the roads and trains. Some are advicing to stay home, some are raising voices about infrastructure projects leading to no help for daily commuters.

Train services on the Central, Western, and Harbour lines are facing major delays, resulting in increased congestion in already crowded areas creating fatal situations for commuters. According to the official statements by the Central Railways the operation is moving on slow pace with 10- 12 minutes delay whereas the commuters are stating delays up to delay of upto 20 minutes in some places. Overcrowding in Mumbai local trains has become a large concern as thousands of deaths occurred in the past few months.

The Andheri subway was closed once more for a short time because of waterlogging. Officials continue to advise commuters to exercise caution as periodic heavy rain is anticipated throughout the day.

The Mumbai Traffic Police has issued advisory for travellers to move traffic to Gokhale and Thackeray bridge as the Andheri bridge has been closed due to severe waterlogging.

Moreover, the traffic police in Mumbai has released a traffic advisory for the Coastal Road Tunnel (Tardeo) heading south because of a vehicle malfunction.
