Mumbai: The city experienced intense rainfall on Monday morning; amid this downpour, an incident unfolded between Churchgate and Marine Lines stations. A tree, weakened by the rain, collapsed onto an overhead electric cable. This triggered a short circuit, resulting in a loud explosion and a fire.
The incident happened between 9 and 10 AM Heavy showers lashed various parts of the city, especially South Mumbai, where some weather stations recorded up to 104 mm of rain within an hour. Other stations reported rainfall exceeding 80 mm during the same period, leading to waterlogging, traffic disruption, and a dangerous short-circuit incident on the Western Railway line.
The tree subsequently caught fire due to the electrical surge. The exact time of the incident was between 9 and 10 AM. A video of the incident was shared by ABP Majha on Instagram, capturing the sparks and fire caused by the short circuit. A video that surfaced online shows the moment the fire broke out and the short circuit occurred between Churchgate and Marine Lines stations.
Train Services On Vadala Road-CSMT Face Delay Due To Waterlogging
The city experienced heavy rainfall, which led to significant delays in local train services. Train operations between Vadala Road and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) were temporarily suspended at 10:25 AM due to severe waterlogging at Masjid station. However, Central Railway later confirmed that services on this route were restored by approximately 11:45 AM.
In addition to this, both the Central and Western railway lines also faced delays as a result of the continuous downpour and water accumulation on the tracks, impacting the city's public transport system.
