Mumbai: In the wake of heavy rainfall and following traffic congestion in the city on Wednesday, IndiGo Airlines has issued a travel advisory for commuters in Mumbai and Delhi. The advisory highlights severe traffic disruptions, especially on roads leading to airports.
The airline urged passengers travelling today to leave earlier than usual to avoid delays. With rainfall affecting city movement, traffic jams have been reported in multiple areas, particularly around airport routes.
In an X post shared by IndiGo, they mentioned, "Heavy traffic has been reported on several roads across #Delhi and #Mumbai, particularly on key routes leading to the airport. If you are travelling today, please consider planning ahead and leaving earlier than usual."
They also informed commuters that they can check real-time updates, stating, "For your convenience, real-time updates are available on our app and website to help you stay informed about your flight status https://bit.ly/31paVKQ."
Speaking about the preparations, they added, "Our airport teams are fully prepared to support and guide you once you arrive. Your journey is important to us, and we are here to help at every step." This advisory comes as Mumbai experiences intense rainfall, adding to the challenges of commuting during peak hours.
City Braces for More Heavy Rains Today; Andheri Subway Shut; IMD Issues Orange Alert for July 24
Mumbai is expected to witness another spell of intense rainfall as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Wednesday, July 23. Several areas in South Mumbai, including Byculla, Lalbaug, CSMT, and Churchgate, experienced heavy overnight and early morning downpours.
Andheri Subway Shut Due to Waterlogging
Following the overnight rain, commuters faced difficulties during morning travel. The Andheri Subway has been closed to vehicular movement due to 1 to 1.5 feet of waterlogging. According to a post by the Mumbai Traffic Police, traffic is being redirected through Gokhale Bridge and Thackeray Bridge.
In addition, local train services across all suburban routes were delayed by 15 to 20 minutes, particularly on the Central and Harbour lines. With more rainfall forecast for the day, further traffic congestion is expected across the city.
