Mumbai: Continuous rainfall in Mumbai led to waterlogging in several low-lying areas, causing disruption in daily commutes, particularly for local train passengers. On Monday, trains were running 15 to 20 minutes behind schedule.

According to sources, the heavy downpour reduced visibility on railway tracks, forcing local trains on the Central line to operate at slower speeds. This caused significant delays during the morning rush hour, with many office-goers reaching their workplaces late.

Areas such as Dadar, Kurla, Sion, Ghatkopar, Vikhroli, and Kanjurmarg witnessed intense rainfall. Due to poor visibility on the railway tracks, the speed of local trains was deliberately reduced for safety, causing services to run sluggishly.

According to passengers, local trains on the Central line were delayed by 10 to 20 minutes, while Western suburban trains were running behind schedule by up to 10 minutes. Air-conditioned (AC) local trains on both routes faced even longer delays, causing further inconvenience to commuters. The slowed-down services led to overcrowding at railway stations and inside trains during peak hours.

Mail and express trains were also affected, running at reduced speeds and further disrupting the local train schedule. However, Central Railway (CR) officials claimed that trains were running behind schedule by only 7 to 8 minutes.

"Heavy rains continue in the Thane and Kalyan regions. UP trains are running late by 7–8 minutes," said a CR official on Monday evening. Similarly, Western Railway (WR) claimed on social media that trains were running normally.
