Mumbai: Due to continuous heavy rainfall in the city, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has released updated water level data for the reservoirs supplying Mumbai. The water stock in the seven major dams has now reached 75.79%, offering much-needed relief to Mumbaikars, especially since this level was achieved by the second week of July, much earlier than usual.
One of the key reservoirs, Modaksagar Dam, started overflowing on July 9 following consistent rainfall in its catchment area. Mumbai receives 3,900 million litres of water daily from seven reservoirs: Urdhva Vaitarna, Modaksagar, Tansa, Bhatsa, Vihar, and Tulsi. These dams have a combined storage capacity of 14.47 lakh million litres, of which 10.97 lakh million litres are currently filled.
Earlier in the year, the city faced water shortage concerns due to significantly low reservoir levels during the summer. However, with strong and steady rainfall in June and July this year, those worries have now been put to rest.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted cloudy skies with moderate rain at intervals throughout the day in Mumbai and nearby areas. Additionally, strong winds are expected in some parts of the city. According to the Santacruz observatory, the maximum temperature recorded was 30.8┬░C, while the minimum was 25.8┬░C. In Colaba, the highest temperature was 31┬░C and the lowest was 24.6┬░C.
Over the past 24 hours, Mumbai city received 11.92 mm of rainfall, while the eastern suburbs recorded 22.64 mm, and the western suburbs got 15.84 mm. As a result of this rainfall, the water levels in the lakes supplying Mumbai with drinking water have risen. The most recent figures show that the total water stock in the seven reservoirs has reached 75.79%, which amounts to 10,96,952 million litres.
