Mumbai: Mumbai woke up to cloudy skies with light rain showers on Monday morning. After over a week of heavy downpours, the city is witnessing a brief lull in intense rainfall, offering a welcome breather to residents.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has not issued any weather alert for Monday, marking a shift from the yellow and orange alerts issued last week for Mumbai, Thane and Palghar. While the torrential rains have eased, light to moderate showers are expected to continue.

The city is expected to experience moderate rainfall with temperatures ranging between 26°C and 31°C under generally cloudy skies. According to AQI.in, there is a 95 per cent chance of precipitation throughout the day. Overcast skies and wet roads are expected to impact commuting and motorists are advised to drive cautiously.
The upcoming forecast indicates continued rain throughout the week. July 29 is expected to bring temperatures between 26°C and 31°C with moderate rainfall. July 30 is forecast to receive light rain, with temperatures around 27°C. A marginal shift is expected in early August, with patchy showers on August 1 and 2, and temperatures climbing to 28°C and 29°C, respectively.
Nearly 50% Rainfall Already Recorded
This year's early monsoon onset has resulted in Mumbai receiving 45.70 per cent of its average annual rainfall already. The city usually records about 2207 mm of rain annually. As of July 27, the eastern suburbs have received the highest rainfall at 1117.42 mm, followed by the western suburbs at 1032.25 mm and the city area at 876.29 mm.
Lake Levels Almost Full
In a major development, the seven lakes that supply water to Mumbai have reached nearly 90 per cent of their total capacity, offering considerable relief and assurance of water security for the coming months. This is a substantial increase compared to last year's 71.95 per cent and 61.58 per cent in 2023 on the same date.
