Mumbai: Mumbai woke up to scattered rain showers across the city on Saturday, August 9, which is also the occasion of Raksha Bandhan. The city is set to experience cloudy and humid weather today, with light to moderate rain expected across various parts of the city, offering residents a typical monsoon feel during the month of Shravan. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), some areas could see an increase in rainfall intensity by afternoon or evening.

Southern Mumbai localities, including Marine Drive, Colaba, and Gateway of India, along with Dadar, Sion, Andheri, Kurla, Ghatkopar, Chembur and Bhandup, are expected to receive more pronounced showers. Low-lying areas such as Hindmata, Andheri Subway, and BKC may face waterlogging, which could disrupt vehicular movement.

Traffic congestion is anticipated in several parts of the city, particularly if water accumulation occurs in flood-prone zones. The IMD has cautioned commuters to stay updated on local train schedules as minor delays or changes may occur.

Although the monsoon season so far has delivered rainfall above the state average, the second week of August has seen a slight decline in intensity. The IMD’s latest forecast highlights a mix of moderate showers and cloudy skies across multiple regions.

Light To Moderate Rains For Konkan Region

In Konkan and western Maharashtra, including Thane, Palghar, Raigad and Ratnagiri, light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder is expected. Ratnagiri is under a yellow alert for rain, and temperatures are likely to remain between 25°C and 30°C.

In Marathwada and Vidarbha, covering Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Parbhani, Nagpur and Chandrapur, cloudy conditions will prevail, with light rain and isolated afternoon showers predicted. These regions are also under a yellow alert.

Yellow Alert For Western Ghats

Pune and other parts of central Maharashtra, including Satara and Sangli, will see cooler temperatures due to overcast skies, but rainfall will remain limited. A yellow alert is in effect for Pune’s ghats, Satara, Sangli and Kolhapur. In northern Maharashtra, Nashik and Jalgaon may witness light showers, but maximum temperatures could exceed 30°C.

Authorities have urged commuters to factor in potential delays, especially in waterlogging-prone zones, and to plan their travel accordingly to avoid being caught in traffic snarls.
