A special Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act court in Mumbai was shocked to know that a rape and murder convict was being released on good behaviour bond. The convict, Gundappa Devendra alias Vadivel, was arrested in August 13, 2013, for rape and murder of a nine year old girl.

“How was he released on good behaviour bond in section 376 [rape] conviction in 2018,” additional sessions judge AD Deo questioned the public prosecutor and a Juhu police officer when Devendra was produced before her. Court also pointed out how he was being released in 2018 as he was sent to prison in 2013.

In August 2013, Devendra was sent to seven years imprisonment for kidnapping, raping and murdering a nine-year-old girl. He committed the crime in April 2013. Later, he also dumped the girl’s body in a drain. The prosecutor asked for remanding him in police custody. For now, Devendra has now been remanded in police custody till April 18.
