In a crackdown against drug peddlers the Anti Narcotics Cell (ANC) of the city crime branch arrested a drug peddler with mephedrone (MD) worth ₹ 12 lakh on Monday. The accused identified as Mohasin Kayyum Sayyad, 35 is suspected to be part of a larger syndicate, said officials.
According to the officials, they received a specific information that Sayyad would arrived near BMC M (West) ward office on Monday evening to deliver contraband substance. Accordingly they laid a trap and apprehended Sayyad as he arrived. During his search 100 gram of MD along with an electronic weighing machine was recovered.
Following the seizure, Sayyad has been arrested under the relevant sections of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) act. He was produced before the court on Tuesday which remanded him police custody, said officials.
Sayyad a resident of Govandi is suspected to be part of a larger syndicate and investigation is underway to trace his supplier and his clients, added the officer.
