The Malad police have booked a man, who was working as an office boy at the studio of music director Pritam Chakraborty for seven years, for Rs40 lakh theft. The accused, Ashish Sayal, allegedly stole the money bag from the studio on February 4 on the pretext of delivering it to Chakraborty's residence.
According to the FIR, the music director's studio – Unimus Record Pvt Ltd – is located in the Rustomjee Ozone building on the Goregaon-Mulund Link Road. On February 4, producer Madhu Mantena had sent the bag containing the whopping amount to the studio as part of business transactions.
Chakraborty's manager, Vinit Chheda, 29, placed the bag in a drawer in the presence of Sayal and other staff members, Ahmad Khan and Kamal Disha. Subsequently, Chheda left for the music director’s residence, which is in the same building. Upon return, he found the bag missing and was told by Khan that Sayal had taken the bag, saying he was going to deliver it to Chakraborty’s residence. The accused had gone incommunicado, said the complaint.
Chheda then informed Chakraborty about the situation, however, the latter thought that the office boy would return as he was working for him for several years. After waiting overnight, the music director asked his manager to approach the police
