The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board organised a programme at Shree Siddhivinayak Ganpati temple at Prabhadevi on Saturday evening to create awareness about the harms of excessive use of plastics.
The initiative aimed to encourage devotees visiting the temple and local flower sellers to use cloth bags instead of plastic bags. During the event, Minister for Environment, Pankaja Munde, visited the temple and addressed devotees and members of the media, emphasising the importance of promoting the use of cloth bags over plastic bags.

Mumbai's most visited temple recently introduced a ban on coconuts, food, and flower garlands for security reasons. The temple also announced a ban on plastic bags.
The temple's trustee and treasurer, Acharya Pawan Tripathi, assured that the temple trust would implement this initiative and thanked the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board for taking the lead in environmental protection. Other trustees present at the event included Gopal Dalvi, Mahesh Mudaliar,executive officer Veena Patil, and deputy executive officer, Dr Sandeep Rathod.
