Mumbai: A 50-year-old man from Malvani in Malad West was arrested for posting an objectionable message on social media. The accused, identified as Wajid Hazrat Momin, allegedly made remarks referencing Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb, which sparked religious tensions in the area.
His post, which referenced Aurangzeb, allegedly incited religious sentiments and created tensions between communities. A case has been registered, and the police are further investigating the matter, reported IANS.
According to a report by Lokmat Times, Momin’s post read, "Don’t know how Aurangzeb had killed him, that the sound of pain is still echoing today." The message quickly went viral, leading to heightened tensions and disputes between two communities. Following multiple complaints, the Malvani police took swift action and detained Momin.
Case Registered for Inciting Religious Sentiments
Police officials stated that Momin’s post hurt religious sentiments and disrupted communal harmony. A case has been registered against him under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). He has been taken into custody for questioning and authorities are investigating the motive behind his post.
Police Investigate Possible Involvement of Others
The Malvani police are probing whether Momin acted alone or if others were involved in spreading inflammatory content. Investigators are also analyzing his social media activities to determine if he had shared similar content before. Given the sensitivity of the issue, additional security forces have been deployed in Malvani to prevent any further escalation.

In light of the incident, the Malvani police have appealed to the public not to believe in rumours or spread misinformation. Officials stressed the importance of maintaining peace and awaiting the full details of the investigation.
