Mumbai: Repair work on Mahim station's South Foot Over Bridge (FOB) is progressing steadily and is expected to be completed by April 30, 2025, according to Western Railway (WR) officials. The bridge, a vital link for daily commuters, was closed for urgent repairs after serious structural issues were identified earlier this month.

Inspections revealed significant damage, including cracked precast reinforced concrete (RCC) slabs and heavily corroded, perforated slab-supporting beams. In response, WR began the repair work on April 16, prioritizing commuter safety.

"In the interest of commuter safety, repair work began on April 16, 2025, with a targeted completion date of April 30. The bridge, which spans a total length of 40 meters and has a width of 4 meters, plays a crucial role in daily commuter movement at Mahim station," said a WR official.

Providing an update on the repair status, the official added, "So far, the damaged precast RCC slabs have been fully dismantled, and the replacement of corroded support beams over a 20-meter stretch has been completed. Currently, workers are in the process of laying chequered plates to restore the walking surface."

During the repair period, the South FOB will remain closed to the public. However, two alternate foot overbridges located at the northern end of Mahim station remain open, ensuring continued access between the east and west sides of the station area.

Authorities have urged commuters to use the alternate routes and cooperate with ongoing efforts. "We understand the inconvenience, but safety remains our top priority," the official emphasized.
