Mumbai: The Maharashtra government has declared a financial aid package of Rs 50 lakh for each family from the state that lost a loved one in the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. The decision was announced during a state cabinet meeting on Tuesday, where Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis paid tribute to the victims of the April 22 incident.

Along with the financial relief, the government also plans to support the affected families through educational and employment opportunities. As part of this initiative, CM Fadnavis confirmed that the daughter of Santosh Jagdale, one of the victims, will receive a government job. This follows prior discussions and has now been finalised through the Chief Minister’s special powers, according to the news agency ANI report.

In addition to Maharashtra’s announcement, the Jammu and Kashmir government has also extended support. It earlier confirmed an ex-gratia payment of Rs 10 lakh to each bereaved family and compensation for those injured.

The Jammu and Kashmir, Chief Minister’s office said in a post on X. “No amount of money can ever compensate for the loss of loved ones, but as a mark of support and solidarity, the J&K Government announces an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh each for the families of the deceased, Rs 2 lakh for those seriously injured, and Rs 1 lakh for those with minor injuries," as per report.

The CMO added, “All arrangements for the dignified transport of the victims back to their homes have been made. The injured are being provided the best medical care.”

The terror attack at the popular Baisaran meadow in Pahalgam claimed the lives of 25 Indian tourists and one Nepalese national. In response, India suspended the Indus Water Treaty, downgraded diplomatic ties, and closed the Attari checkpost with Pakistan.
