Mumbai: Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer Sameer Wankhede has lodged a defamation case against a woman for making baseless and false allegations against him on social media. According to a report by Lokmat Times, the case was filed in the Andheri court.

The woman has allegedly been spreading misleading and unverified claims about Wankhede on X (formerly Twitter). She linked Wankhede to the Sushant Singh Rajput case without any evidence in her post. Wankhede stated that this activity has not only caused him mental stress but has also harmed his professional reputation.

Speaking about the case advocate Malika Shirzade stated, "We have taken strict legal action to put an end to this defamatory campaign. Freedom of expression does not mean one can spread falsehoods to malign someone’s image. All allegations against Sameer Wankhede are completely false and misleading, as per the report by Lokmat Times.

Meanwhile, former Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Mumbai Zonal Director Sameer Wankhede is set to return to Mumbai after the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) cancelled his "arbitrary" transfer to Chennai.

The tribunal observed that the transfer order issued by the Department of Revenue was "arbitrary and violative of their own transfer policy" and "smacked of bias towards him." The Ministry of Finance observed the tribunal.

As per the report, the principal bench of the CAT, chaired by Justice Ranjit More and with member Rajinder Kashyap, further noted that "There is no disagreement on the point that officer has All India liability to serve, however, respondents while posting the officers need to adhere to their policy in a fair, transparent and just manner.”
