The Grand Hyatt Hotel received a threatening call on Friday night. The call, which came from a German number, was made to the hotel’s customer service line. The bomb detection and disposal squad promptly conducted a thorough search of the premises but found nothing suspicious.
According to the police, the caller claimed that a bomb had been planted on the hotel premises and that it would explode within ten minutes. The Vakola police have registered a case against an unidentified individual and launched a search operation.
A police officer stated, "On Friday at 11:30 p.m., a call from a German number was received on the hotel's customer service line. The caller said the hotel would be blown up in ten minutes. The authorities swiftly launched an operation and conducted a thorough search. No suspicious object was found. We are trying to trace the caller. A case has been filed at the Vakola Police Station."
Meanwhile, the five-star Grand Hyatt Hotel, located in Santacruz East, had received a similar threat in the past. However, that incident occurred some time ago. In October 2022, a drunk man had called and claimed he would blow up the entire hotel with a bomb. The hotel management was shocked by the call and immediately informed the police. A thorough investigation was conducted on the premises, and the authorities began searching for the suspect. During the investigation, the police traced the caller and identified him as Suraj Jadhav, a resident of Vakola who was heavily intoxicated at the time.
Mumbai Police continues to receive numerous fake bomb threat calls. This is not the first such incident in the city. In 2025 alone, the police control room has received several fake bomb threat calls targeting prominent locations such as the Taj Hotel, Oberoi Hotel, railway and bus stations, the airport, and even schools, colleges and hospitals. All the calls were investigated and found to be hoaxes.
